Smart Ultimate All Star Weekend with Kobe Bryant and top NBA Stars vs Smart Gilas Pilipinas & PBA Selection

Ever since I heard it from friends and read it from online forums about Philippine Basketball that Kobe is back in the country together with the top US basketball stars for an exhibition game with Smart Gilas and  PBA Selection team I wanted to buy ticket for me even if it is too costly just to witness this very rare basketball event in our country but my schedule wouldn’t allow me so I have no choice but to wait for a DVD copy or watch it via online streaming but the good thing is MVP Sports Foundation and Smart Telecom aired it live at IBC 13’s AKTV yesterday July 23, 2011 7pm until 10pm. Though the reception is not that good and it is almost an online stream video quality, tele-viewers are still lucky like me to watch it live.

Prior to watching this, the supposedly opening game of our 4th CSS Basketball League – Director’s Cup was also on this same day but sad to say it was cancelled and moved to July 30, 2011. CSS Basketball League is a yearly sports event in our company for Consumer Department only to have a break from work, stay healthy and to have a camaraderie are some of the goals of this event, we also have the annual PSS Basketball League open to all Trenders and ex-Trenders (We are called ourselves Trenders because we are working at Trend Micro). The basketball courts A and B at the Worldwide Corporate Center was already reserved by our committee since the opening day was postponed we took this chance to have a tune up game with other teams and to have a team practice, we started 9am and ended 1pm. After the exhausting 4 hours game, we cool down, I eat lunch, go home, took a rest then slept so that I can wake up to watch Smart Ultimate All Star Weekend on TV. when I woke up, the timing was just right when I switch on the television set the game hasn’t started yet, I saw Derrick Rose being interviewed so I grab coffee first to wake my self up. I help myself find a comfy seat and the jump ball begins, Mr. Manny Pangilinan started the ceremonial toss using a gold-plated ball haha. What happened next, it was a surreal experience, expected and unexpected happens. Well, I don’t go any further details about the game, I am not a good commentator or a sportscaster haha, If somebody uploads a copy of the video on YouTube I will surely create a video link here, for the benefit of those who haven’t got a chance to watch it, please somebody post it now haha.

Kobe Bryant, who visited the Philippines last week, together with NBA stars Chris Paul, Tyreke Evans, Javale McGee, James Harden, Derrick Williams, Derek Fisher, Kevin Durant and 2011 MVP Derrick Rose completed the selection of Smart All Stars that go against the PBA selection composed of James Yap and Marc Pingris (BMeg), Mark Caguioa and JC Intal (Ginebra) Arwin Santos and Rabeh Al-Hussaini (Petron Blaze), Ryan Reyes, Jason Castro and Larry Fonacier (Talk N’ Text), Sonny Thoss and LA Tenorio(Alaska), Sol Mercado (Meralco), Gary David (Powerade), Gabe Norwood (Rain or Shine) and Danny Seigle (Air21).

The most notable dunks that I like was the dunks of Javale McGee, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose and James Harden.

During the half time there is a three-point shoot out contest won by the combined scores of Chris Paul and James Harden of 26 points against L.A. Tenorio and Larry Fonacier with 25 points.

During the last quarter Javale McGee do the planking after he dunked incredibly haha. That was cool and I am laughing on my seat because the commentators don’t know what he just did haha.

The game ended a Final score of 131-105 in favor of the NBA All Stars.

The Scores:

SMART (NBA) ALL STARS 131 – McGee 25, Durant 22, Williams 19, Evans 17, Harden 16, Bryant 12, Paul 11, Rose 9, Fisher 0.

PBA ALL-STARS 105 – Santos 25, Cabagnot 9, Pingris 9, Al-Hussaini 8, Mercado 8, David 8, Norwood 7, Reyes 6, Thoss 4, Castro 4, Caguioa 4, Seigle 4, Intal 4, Fonacier 3, Tenorio 2, Yap 0.

Quarters: 30-26, 66-50, 107-78, 131-105

Today, Sunday, July 24, 2011, 1pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Smart Gilas will face the NBA All Stars selection and there is a delayed telecast at 5:30pm – InterAKTV 13. Smart Gilas is composed of Olympic qualifiers Mark Barroca, JVee Casio, Dylan Ababou, Japeth Aguilar, Mac Baracael, Jason Ballesteros, Chris Lutz,  Marcio Lassiter, Chris Tiu, the naturalized player Marcus Douthit and PBA reinforcements Jimmy Alapag, Kelly Williams, Ranidel de Ocampo, Asi Taulava and Dondon Hontiveros. I will definitely watch this today knowing the fact that our Philippine Team been playing overseas. I expect that they can be competitive as we expected of them. Go Smart Gilas show us what you got!
