NBA Haier Shooting Stars Competition All-Star 2012

Everybody is expecting slam dunk contest, 3 point shoot competition but for me I am more curious about the team challenge or skills and that’s what I wanted to see, so I ended up watching Haier Shooting Stars Competition and  Taco Bell Skills Challenge.

Some might say this event was better than the slam dunk competition and I agree to that, it’s kind of dry and boring, I am expecting new tricks or gimmicks but Jeremy Evans‘ 2 handed alley-hoop dunk with 2 balls was hailed Dunk of the Year as he was the hailed crowd favorite via text and online votes.

Team Texas : Rockets forward Chandler Parsons, WNBA star Sophia Young and former Rocket Kenny Smith.
T. Orlando : Magic guard Jameer Nelson, WNBA star Marie Ferdinand-Harris & former Magic star Dennis Scott.
Team Atlanta : Hawks forward Jerry Stackhouse, WNBA star Lindsey Harding and former Hawk Steve Smith.
Team New York : Knicks guard Landry Fields, WNBA star Cappie Pondexter and former Knick Allan Houston.

I think watching this one of the highlight of this NBA All-Star 2012. I’m begging you to compare this year’s Sprite Slam Dunk contest in the past where there’s a complete turn around as there are no judges or players to give points and voters have the full control who’ll win the title. Jeremy Evans wins the title, oh no, Jeremy again, haha :-D.

Who doesn’t know Jeremy Lin, the Linderella Man the new-found starting point guard of New York Knicks. He’s Asian-American and a Harvard graduate. Linsanity were added by Shaq himself to play in Team Shaq for BBVA Rising Star Challenge but he kept his playing time in least of 8 minutes to give way to his fellow rising stars and kept his media hype low.

Allan Houston sunk two halfcourt shots to lead Team New York to a victory in the 2012 Haier Shooting Stars competition on All-Star Saturday. Houston, who works in the New York Knicks’ basketball operations, served as the legend for Team New York. Knicks guard Landry Fields was the active NBA player on the winning squad, and Cappie Pondexter of the New York Liberty was the WNBA rep.

The competition involved teammates alternating shots from different spots on the floor and ended with the players attempting halfcourt shots until one of them made it.

TNT Analyst Kenny Smith made both halfcourt shots for the runner-up, Team Texas. But that team’s finals run took a bit too much as the Houston Rockets rookie Chandler Parsons’ arms apparently fell asleep during intermission, allowing the wing to take only one shot every 10 seconds.

Team Atlanta (starring Jerry Stackhouse… as the active player) and hometown Team Orlando bombed in the first round.

NYK Wins. Allan Houston (left), the Liberty's Cappie Pondexter and Landry Fields.

Team New York wins the NBA Haier Shooting Stars All-Star 2012

I like Allan Houston’s shooting back then and check his shoes, I love it, did he preserved that. haha 🙂 Since, JLin emerges and called Linsanity I find Landy Fields’ shooting is awesome in 3 point lane. I so love New York Knicks right now, sorry Celtics its not your year but I’m still a Boston fan for life. Hope to see NYK vs Celtics game.
